Mary & Tom’s Beloit Wedding at The Castle was so special. Mary is a friend and my second photographer. We were in the same photography program in college. I spend more Saturday’s with her than I do any of my other friends. She knows all of my wedding day tricks, all of my weird list management techniques and she knows how to find light like… well a pro. It can be intimidating to photograph an amazing wedding photographer on their big day too, but I wouldn’t have missed it for the world. I loved having this chance to not only document but also be in the moment with a great friend.
Mary & Tom choose a stunning classic church to say their vows… it also had zero air conditioning and it was a balmy 90 degrees outside. I loved the gold details they included throughout their day… and I loved more how Mary & Tom never stopped smiling & never got lost in the hustle of the day.
Mary’s Dad Mitch is a legend. She took the best portraits of him while we were in our portrait photography class, he has a reputation for NEVER smiling in photos. I consider capturing all of his smiles on this day one of my greatest accomplishments.
Can I give Tom a huge shout out for killing it in this plaid suit.
Mary & Tom, what were your favorite moment/s from the day?
Tom: “my favorite moment was when I got to see Mary walk down the isle. I didn’t know what to expect. My other favorite part was partying at the end of the night.”
Mary: “My favorite moment was the feeling I got when I walked to the end of the isle and stood by Tom. I was SO nervous and my heart was racing before walking down the isle.. when I got up there, I was completely calm. True sign that it’s meant to be! I also loved getting a few minutes away at sunset to take some photos of just the two of us. It was a nice escape from the chaos”
As a wedding photographer yourself you’ve been behind the camera for so many weddings, how was it standing in front of the lens for a change?
It was so much easier than I thought it was going to be. A huge reason behind that is because we had an amazing photographer ;)(Awwww, shucks!!) We got so many amazing shots without making the photos the main event of the day, which is exactly what I wanted. I was so in the moment all day, I hardly realized the camera was on us all day. It was perfect!
Any other bits you want to include?
When people say your wedding day flies by in the blink of an eye, they are not exaggerating! The best advice I can give to couples getting married in the future, is be in the moment. Every moment of the day is so special, make sure to take it all in.
Mary & Tom, Thank You!!
