Jess & Pete’s Catholic Wedding & Reception at The Armory in Janesville on a warm fall day was heartfelt and filled with laughter and joy. First of all, Jess has more style and vision in her little pinky finger than I will ever possess in all my life! I caught Pete stealing glances at her all day long. They are travel aficionados’ and brought this theme to their stunning reception at The Armory. What I loved most of all about their day, was the way they both emphasized their wedding ceremony from the first moment we met. They were so at peace in the Church. Their Priest, Father Paul, knew them well too! His homely to them had them laughing, crying and gazing at one another. It was a lovely & beautiful day to celebrate such a powerful & celebratory sacrament.
Jess, what was your favorite moment/s from the day?
So many moments!
When Father Paul came in to check on me before the ceremony and said the Church was a “packed house,” I immediately got emotional knowing that everyone we loved was there for Pete and I, to support our love and marriage. I took a minute to really appreciate how far some people traveled for this, for us, and just experienced an overwhelming feeling of love.
I knew walking down the aisle with my dad was always going to be something special, but when we got to the altar and Pete gave him a big hug, that was my favorite. I loved that moment.
And of course partying at the bar and the reception and seeing how much fun everyone was having was just the best.
Pete, what was your favorite moment/s from the day?
Seeing Jess in her dress for the first time and the ceremony were both highlights for me. I loved seeing everyone there in one place and being able to talk to them all at both the reception and at the bar. I thought the time at the bar was awesome and really allowed us both to cut loose at the reception

A Catholic Wedding in Janesville, WI
Jess & Pete, I LOVED your wedding ceremony and how personal Father Paul was during his homily. He even knew your exact seats when you attend Sunday Mass. I love how you all had a full Mass at your wedding ceremony. Can you tell me a bit more about planning out your wedding ceremony and details?
We always knew we wanted a full Mass at our wedding. Pete and I have been through a lot and our faith is what has always kept us together. We met with Father Paul many times over the course of our 14 month engagement and every time he reminded us that getting married was the easy part. What he was there for was the hard time that may come after and to make sure we were laying the right groundwork for a healthy and lasting marriage. His Homily was so special to us and what was even better was the shout-out he gave us the next morning for making it to Mass!
The readings were pretty easy to pick out as well.
Sirach 26:1-4, 13-16 was picked as a reminder that Pete and I should always try to bring out the best in each other. We are both responsible for building each other up through our actions and attitude towards each other and this reading is a reminder of that. One of Pete’s good friends, PJ, did this reading for us. Him and his wife Mary are two of the most humble and kind people you will ever meet.
Philippians 4:4–9 is one of my all-time favorite Bible verses. Anytime I feel overwhelmed, which I did several times during wedding planning, I’ll recall that verse and calm my worries with prayer. That reading was done by my Godmother, Johanna, at the wedding and she rocked it!
Your reception site was stunning! I loved how you personalized your decor with all things travel. Do you and Pete have any fun travel tips for others planning their honeymoon adventures, or favorite places you’d recommend?
Pete and I LOVE to travel so when we started planning, we knew we wanted to incorporate that in to the reception. Thanks to Pinterest we found a bunch of great ideas and made them our own.
For our honeymoon, we were set to travel to Lake Tahoe and Napa, CA. Two of our favorite places in the United States to visit. Once we arrived in Lake Tahoe, the heartbreaking fires began to overtake Napa & Sonoma, causing the area to be evacuated and us to make other plans. What we realized though, as we trekked 8 hours in a car up to wine country in Southern Oregon, is that it’s not so much the destination that matters, but who you’re with. We saw so many beautiful sights, experienced a new state for the first time together, met some amazing people and just had the best time. Pete and I could have let this change in plans ruin our honeymoon, but we embraced the adventure that is any vacation, or marriage for that matter, and made the absolute best of it.
Any other bits or advise you’d like to include?
Don’t sweat the small stuff, when planning, on your wedding day or after. You’ll regret letting whatever small thing you’re worried about bother while you miss a moment you’ll never get back.
