Tammy & Rob booked with me almost two years ago and I think I was looking just as much forward to their wedding day as they were. First of all they booked Camp Rotamer in Janesville for their venue. I love this location and had it on my wedding day bucket list for a while! Then Tammy started to tell me all about her vision and I couldn’t wait. Tammy is a Pinterest & DIY expert, she would often email me progress photos of her current projects she was working on as the months passed. I got to meet her amazing kids at their engagement session and was even more excited!
Their wedding day was perfection… the weather just couldn’t have been better. When I arrived, her hard work and dedication to creating a beautiful and inspired wedding day was evident… she truly left no detail behind. I was blown away… and so was everyone else! I had to ask Tammy to tell me all about her beautiful day too!
Tammy & Rob, tell me about some of your favorite memories from your wedding day.
‘Rob tells me his favorite memory is of me coming down the aisle. He loved that I added a pop of coral pink at the bottom of my dress ! It’s so hard for me to pick just one moment. I feel like the entire day was just perfection! Dancing down the aisle with my son Alex, having my, Lauren and all of our friends stand by my side… listening to the readings and song that had a stronghold on my heart…(OUR ENTIRE CEREMONY REALLY!) Sharing toasts and letting our friends know how special they were… dancing with my buddy, Rigg & watching my kids have a fantastic, fun filled day. We were also very purposeful in including our friends so that our wedding would be uniquely ours. The officiant, day of coordinator, bar tender, DJ, and cake baker are all very close friends of ours.’
When you and Rob were planning your wedding how did you come up with all of your inspiration and vision? I loved the sparkles in the camp setting… it was all so seamless!
‘We started planning by picking a season. We knew we wanted a summer wedding immediately, as we love the warm, hot sunshine! We also love being on the water, so we knew Camp Rotamer would be the perfect place for us with the pond as a backdrop. I found most of my inspiration and vision on Pinterest. I saved many, MANY pins (ideas), and from there, narrowed the ideas down to what could be put together in an romantic and eclectic manner. I just adore sparkly things, but I’m also a down to earth girl!’
Tammy, your wedding was filled with so many details and handmade decorations. Can you tell me a little about all of the hard work you put into creating so much for your day?
‘A large behind-the-scenes theme for me was to reuse or repurpose as much as I could before I bought something new. A little elbow grease and spray paint can be your friend! Or in the case of our very large marquee letters that spelled LOVE, build them ourselves for a mere fraction of what they cost to be rented from a vendor. I tend to balk strongly at wasting money. Why rent the marquee lights for $500 or more, when I could build them for much less and then resell them?’
Looking back as a DIY bride, could you offer any advice for brides who are looking to do so much themselves too?
‘I really adore DIY projects. There is just something great about taking something old and making it new again. Or giving something a new purpose, that type of work gives me a sense of pride & joy. I would suggest that any couple wanting to take on a large number of DIY projects have a long engagement like we did (two years). Having that extra time gave us time to pinpoint the projects we liked and time to search resale shops and sales. A long engagement also gave us time to step back and take a break from time to time and not become overwhelmed with all the planning. Additionally, a long engagement is wonderful for finding sales among vendors that you need to book.
Our wedding day was really the most wonderful day. I would live it over and over again if I could!’
Gosh after all of these years keeping up with Tammy & Rob… I’m so excited to share these highlights. It was a great day and what an honor to be the lucky photographer tasked with capturing all of these memories! Contact me if you have a DIY wedding coming up!
