A Northwoods Wedding has been on my wedding location bucket for 8 long YEARS! When Carlie told me all about her plans to say, ‘I Do’ to her long time love, Dylan on the shores of the Tomahawk River at his family home, I was elated and was willing to do just about anything to be there capturing all the joy. I even changed up my summer vacation plans and brought my whole family to the Northwoods so I wouldn’t miss their big day. I’m so glad I did too!
As a wedding photographer, I basically study the farmer’s almanac and check all of the weather sites daily during my wedding season. I was rather bummed to see that the day called for 100% chance of cold & hard rain for Carlie & Dylan’s wedding day but when I arrived, they were sticking with the plan of an outdoor wedding. NOTHING was going to spoil this day for them not even a steady downpour! I’m always up for an adventure!!
I asked Carlie & Dylan to share about their day too.
Tell me about your favorite memories from your wedding day…
Carlie – My favorite memory of the entire day, that’s a really tough one! The ceremony was everything I had hoped it would be, but I’d have to say the dinner and reception too! Sitting at the head table with my new husband, surrounded by everyone we love was just an amazing feeling. Also, our first dance! It was so nice to have just that few minutes with each other, I think we talked the whole time!
Dylan – My favorite part of the wedding was saying my vows to Carlie in front of our families and celebrating our marriage with our families.
Your wedding called for rain all day but you all pushed through, do you have any ideas or tips for other brides who are planning an outdoor wedding day.
I spent the last year planning every detail of the wedding pretty intensely, so in the months leading up to the wedding when someone would ask about a rain plan my response would always be “what rain plan?” Or “bring an umbrella!” I think people thought I was crazy. We had a tent built for the guests and we bought twenty – something umbrellas for everyone. I just found it wasn’t worth stressing out about the weather, because you can’t change it! I was honestly so elated during the ceremony I didn’t even notice the rain. By the time we got back to the hotel for dinner, I was soaked, but I didn’t care! Everyone was there to help me dry my dress, and I even got a bath to warm up! At the end of the day, it’s just accepting that what will be will be.
Your Ceremony Decor was so unique, I understand it was a true labor of love…
The ceremony was all done by Dylan’s Uncle Mick and a complete surpirse and all hand made… the chandelier, the doors, and the dream catchers! All of it. Dylan made the arbor in 2012, knowing one day he would get married under it.
Carlie & Dylan stood in the rain in front of all of their family & friends and said, I do forever and it was amazing! Thank you a thousand times over for trusting me with your wedding day memories! Check out their stunning engagement session here.
