Everything about Bridget & Alex’s epic State Street wedding was serendipitous. They chose one of the MOST BUSY DAYS of the year to be married on the square in downtown Madison and everything went smooth as butter. Taste of Madison filled the air with the best smells Madison has to offer, they skies were mostly* clear but more importantly Bridget & Alex said ‘I Do’ in Madisonian style!
I going mention a few bullet points from my favorite moments of their wedding day before I turn it over to Alex & Bridget!
-Alex brought a handkerchief for Bridget to use throughout the day and I loved how he was the one to pull it out for himself first!
-Their friends were so so supportive. Alex’s groomsmen were the perfect amount of fun and also calming as he prepared to walk down the aisle.
-Bridget got ready in her parents room with her Mom helping. Her Dad popped in just in time to add the finishing touches to her stunning bridal look. All Dad’s should have a few moments like this I’m convinced after this moment. I simply adored the way her father studied the moment, the room, his beautiful daughter and wife… they were all so happy and present.
-As we walked down State street I noticed a cellist, asked him to play their ceremony song and told Bridget & Alex to dance… I didn’t ask them… I just knew they’d love it. It will not be a moment that I forget soon.
I asked Bridget & Alex to tell me about their favorite moments and my heart was so full as I read their responses!
Alex- The whole day felt so incredibly surreal, there are so many moments we keep coming back to that bring back all the sensations of the day. I’d have to say that walking down state street was certainly a highlight, but our “unofficial” first dance outside of the hat shop really sticks with me. The cello playing Ave Maria, with my beautiful bride, it was all a man could ever ask for on his wedding day. But having the whole street to ourselves as our spiffy entourage made it’s way to our favorite bar, talk about perfect 🙂
Also, there were a few times at the reception, where I looked around, saw Bridget, all of our very closest friends, and all of the incredible people in our lives sitting and laughing around us, tears come to my eyes now remember how fulfilled I felt and how much love was in that room. Pacing nervously in the choir room as the groomsmen all sang Tom Petty, handing a much needed handkerchief to my beautiful bride as we ascended the church steps together, walking out to Bagpipes piping,, running in the rain to the bus, drinking Grain Belt on the way to see our amazing friends and family, dancing with the band, I seriously can’t even keep writing this because I’m going to cry at work.
I’ll let Bridget pipe in some more, but we cannot thank you enough for everything you did to help us remember our amazing wedding day. You were absolutely fantastic, and we can’t wait to see the photos.
Bridget- I agree with everything Alex said 🙂 Our day was so special and you were a huge part of making that happen. Like Alex, my favorite moment of our day was walking down State Street and having you ask a street musician to play Ave Maria so we could have our first unofficial dance right on State… it was so magical and surreal.
Walking from the Capitol to the Union was the most Madison thing we could have done. The busses weren’t running, so we got to walk directly down the middle of the street. Everyone we walked past cheered and clapped for us, we felt like absolute royalty. Everything and everyone we love about this city, the city in which we met and fell in love, was incorporated into our special day… the smells, sounds, sights… we stopped at our favorite bar, got into random people’s pictures, walked past our old class buildings, and ended a the Union, where everyone on the terrace clapped and cheered for us! It filled my heart to the brim to be sitting with the love of my life surrounded by all our best friends at one of the most iconic landmarks of Madison while drinking local beer.
What a great reaction they both had as they walked down the aisle!
I think everyone in Madison has waited in this line before… ummm… hello, Long Island Ice Tea!!! Let’s all agree we never looked this good doing it?!?
I LOVE how Alex looks like he just got away with the biggest heist ever in the photo on the right. I like a guy who knows how lucky he is.
Best friends make you laugh your lashes off! 😉
