Katie and Nick were married on a rainy fall day it was full of so much, jokes, laughter, happy tears and beautiful words. I love stopping at Circus World and wandering around with these two before heading to the Baraboo Arts Center across the street to dance the night away.
Nick and Katie have such a special story and although they were celebrating this wedding day and sacrament with all of the their family and friends they had a small surprise for their guests. They were married months ago… the two of them tucked in a small alcove at the State Capitol building. Nick was headed over seas and they knew they were meant to be. I asked Katie to the why behind their story:
We knew Nick had to make a few trips to South Korea in early 2017. He asked that we get married before he left. We knew that our dream of celebrating our marriage was to have the “church wedding” and go through the official sacrament of marriage with our friends and family by our side. We did a legal ceremony at the capital with just our parents and Nick’s grandma with us as witnesses. This is the reason that we wanted to do our engagement pictures at the capital, to pull that legal ceremony into our “official wedding”. We kept it a secret for the most part, but my mom and Nick did get really excited and did start telling people. By the time the big wedding came we weren’t sure who knew or not, so that’s why we decided to say something during the reception. We did get some questions from those who knew about why we would go through this whole show if we were already married. At the end of the day, when we had our legal ceremony we had some very special people with us, but we didn’t have everyone. We are very blessed to have wonderful family and friends and it was important to us to have them included in our official wedding and to celebrate the start of this wonderful next chapter for us.
It doesn’t get much more pure and honest than that. I LOVE their why and love story.
Tell me a bit about your favorite parts from your big day!
Nick – I enjoyed the time being with our wedding party on the bus ride and at the distillery. My favorite was the alone time I had with Katie, taking pictures and just taking a few moments to ourselves.
Katie – It was having our friends and family there with us. It was wonderful to see how everyone got along and how some people from my family knew people from Nicks from before the wedding.
