Troy & Kristina have been together for two years and last summer when Kristina’s brother was married Troy managed to hide from the camera the entire day. Of course he took endless amounts of teasing about that “accomplishment”. So to make it up to Kristina, he gifted her a photo session for just the two of them this Christmas. Troy and I planned and elaborate plan to take Kristina around the city and casually invite me to their favorite bar when the session was finished where he planned to get down on one knee. He also had all of their friends and family waiting inside watching from the huge window as it all went down.
The day was cold and raining and Kristina had suggested to Troy that they reschedule for better weather… That was a fun text stream convincing her that all would be well. They also happened to be moving out of their downtown apartment that weekend. I suggested we meet there grab a few shots as they closed the chapter on this part of their story. I’m so glad we did… I love these photos among the boxes.
Of course I had to get a little perspective from the day from Troy & Kristina too!
Me: What was the hardest part about surprising Kristina with this proposal?
Troy: Getting the ring. Saving the money up without having her notice and buying something like that with out her approval. Honestly, buying a diamond is just confusing AF!
Me: If you had to give advice to another guy planning to surprise his girl with a fun proposal what would it be?
Troy: Set a date just set the date having a deadline drives decision making. That also makes it impossible to over think anything, like the ring or the plan. But having that plan set in place for over a month and not telling her was tricky too.
For a guy who hates having his photo taken he was a super sport! I provided him endless opportunities to sink in real deep and take ALL.THE.PHOTOS! He joked that this was the most photos he has taken in his entire life. But he knew we couldn’t hit the restaurant until 5 pm so we stalled around and took more. He loved it… right TROY!
FAV of the day!
And from Kristina…
Me: Kristina tell me about the moments leading up to Troy proposing from your perspective, what was going through your head?
Kristina: I was absolutely clueless! I kept giving Troy shit the whole time about how I wasn’t gonna get him out of taking engagement pics when the time comes. He just kinda shook it off without much of a fight which is weird for him considering how much he hates taking pictures. Other than that, everyone did a great job keeping it from me.
When it came time for his proposal, I was ready to grab a drink at our favorite bar. We were walking down the road, and I mentioned to him that maybe we won’t have to take engagement pics after all since these were going to turn out so great. So seconds later, when he got down on a knee, I thought he was just messing with me. I told him to stop playing around and get up… haha. But then he pulled the ring out, and I knew he was serious, and I started balling my eyes out. And of course I said yes!
At that point, I had no idea that everyone was inside so he told me to look inside, and I was surprised even further. I felt more love that day than I have ever felt. Not only from Troy and the fact that he planned such an awesome proposal, but from everyone else that came up to be a part of that moment with us. It was absolutely incredible.
And of course I got a little mad that everyone was able to keep such a huge secret from me, but I am so glad they did. Because that day was perfection. And I am so excited to spend my life with Troy!!
THANK YOU for letting me be part of such an amazing moment of your lives.
Lemme know if you have a special surprise you’d like photographed!
