I had the pleasure of photographing Jake & Katie’s wedding on a cold Saturday in February many years ago. Since then, we’ve kept in touch. When I found out they were looking into the adoption of their first child, I told them to contact me for those baby photos! I’m so honored to document moments for past couples as they grow their families! I asked Katie & Jake to tell me a bit about the adoption process because I know their words would be so much more meaningful than my own.
Katie tell me a bit of your story and how Clark joined your family.
Katie: Our lives were forever changed on January 5, 2018 when we brought our two-week old son Clark home! Just two days earlier, we got the call from our social worker at Adoptions of Wisconsin, Inc. that we were matched with his birth parents. Our first thought was “Let’s do this!” and we never looked back. Our long journey to become parents led us to our perfect, beautiful son Clark, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Becoming “instant parents” has taught us a lot. While we had thought about our parenting philosophy and discussed at length our hopes and dreams for our child, neither of us had changed a newborn’s diaper in a long time! We had to be fast learners! Fortunately, our village of friends and family stepped forward to offer help, meals, baby clothes, and other baby items that got us through those first few sleep-deprived weeks. Clark just turned three months old and he has a lot of interests. He loves our two dogs Hildy and Daisy, but maybe not as much as they love him! He “talks” all the time and gives great eye contact and smiles. He sleeps through the night which has been a real game changer! He really enjoys music, dancing, his toys and mobile. He kicks like crazy, and we have a hunch he will be a very active boy! Clark was named after Clark Kent, or Superman, possibly one of the most famous adopted person in the world. So far, he has proven to be a super baby!
Thank you so much for choosing me to tell these amazing stories for your family!
